Lynwood Stable has been breaking and training some of America’s finest racehorses for over 30 years including recent eclipse winners Songbird and Honor Code.
It was the ninth grade 1 victory for Songbird, whose earnings now stand at $4,562,000. She was bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli out of the West Acre mare Ivanavinalot, who also has an unraced 2-year-old Ghostzapper filly, a yearling filly by Tapizar , and an American Pharoah weanling filly.
The year turned over and she hit a speed bump in training early, but Songbird is still Songbird.
During her 2017 debut June 10 at Belmont Park in the $750,000 Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1), Fox Hill Farm’s 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro was challenged in the turn by Paid Up Subscriber, who put a head in front of the two-time champion filly with a rail move.
Once in a great while the exceptional horse comes along.
Fans of Thoroughbred racing should thank their lucky stars to have witnessed such a horse in 2016 in the form of 3-year-old filly Songbird. Fox Hill Farms’ unbeaten 2-year-old of 2015 carried through her sophomore campaign in much the same way, with seven consecutive victories, earning her the unanimous Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly. Not until her final outing of the year did she feel the sting of defeat.
